hollow hellos and poorly executed goodbyes

I've sunken far below the shoreline once or twice in my day
Tripped over many a raised up crack in the road
Just as I've stolen my fair share of the covers away
Left one too many with an exposed shoulder turned cold
And still some days it seems I'm back to square one
Mathematics has no life long passion for love
You either add or subject to the underlying sum
It seems no equals can exist once that first damage is done

This is that moment you can't catch your breath
Your time to speak with no bounds of the love you possess
But now it's here and the words are all caught in your chest
Final glimmer of light in the dimming of night
Lips last chance to align but you can't get it right
This is your poorly executed goodbye

I spent all night awake rehearsing just what I would say
Auditioning in the shower to water run cold
Collect my composer with a coffee and a notebook to hold
Leave no hands free to pull you near and never let go
For in that moment I am putty and your smile is two hands
I knew I would fall apart and lose all my form
Whatever I had scripted fell into your quicksand
You played my limbs like a puppet, I was yours to perform

This is that moment you can't catch your breath
Your time to speak with no bounds of the love you possess
But now it's here and the words are all caught in your chest
Final glimmer of light in the dimming of night
Lips last chance to align but you can't get it right
This is your poorly executed goodbye

In these moments love means more than saying we won't stray
But with distance these things become hard to uphold
This world is fields of mice and we are birds of prey
We take what we want with no apologies to bestow
I can't stop my abuse, without an outlet to feed
I thought it could be you, I thought it could be me
I've been taking so long and hiding behind empty words
It's only fitting to now lose what I don't truly deserve

This is that moment you can't catch your breath
Your time to speak with no bounds of the love you possess
But now it's here and the words are all caught in your chest
Final glimmer of light in the dimming of night
Lips last chance to align but you can't get it right
This is your poorly executed goodbye

blizzard of frozen rain

I'll deal with the snow when it falls. I have a garage full of shovels and I know all of them on nick name basis. I call one spade because she can't be trusted. I call another old rusty cause she's been around so long I can barely remember her real name. There's another I call hunger and another I call pain… I don't quite remember how they got their names but they both seem fitting on cold winter days. Most others I just call Jane because it's such a common, unappealing name. I use them all, but only one uses me back. She's my favorite, although I would never tell her that. The way she pushes when I pull, drags when I go to slow. It all drives me to the edge, but I wouldn't have it any other way. So fuck this warmth and bring on the winter so I can bring back the numbness… just me, my shovels and the frozen rain.

void pantograph

I strive to be clean but can't seem to stay fresh
This dead soap just barely covers the tell tale stench
Of what I no longer want to be
I was once told these chemicals can only harm
Make you forget you stink, forget you're a number greater than one
As the alcohol sinks in and changes you within

I look in the mirror, and all I see is void pantograph

There is a scent to a new shirt that is welcoming
No dead skin smell to keep me pondering my demise
Like a light bulb blown the flash only lives when i close my eyes
Taunting me to move in the dark
Based on memories of what I remember the room looked like
As I frantically feel for a wall to support my absent sight

I look in the mirror, and all I see is void pantograph

A string of paper folded endlessly
The same dead shape cut once, lives on repeatedly
Shared hands that connect until nothings left
You can sever the head but the snake will slither till the bodies dead
Swimming in its own blood, till someone pulls the plug
And drains the filthy tub

I look in the mirror, and all I see is void pantograph

uni-pen

As wings spread like fire and burn in desires name
The air grows tighter, sucked into shallow flames
No profit from the travel, this is no poor mans game
Only the paper plane that unravels shows any kind of gain
Fist clenched too tight, eyes too tired to see
Is it her face that's a blur, or the love she shows for me
Been down too long to have any kind of faith
To anything more alive than this coffin that I chase
As liquid light leaves salty parallel lines on burnt cheeks
Unaware of any moisture till I'm drowning in my own personal sea
I brought myself to this mountain, it was my idea to climb
But the higher this body gets, the less the mind knows why
This can only end badly, air too thin for two
Yet I'd still drag on asphyxiated, if I thought it was just me and you
Eventually the trail will weaken, inevitably the excess of feet will cause a slip
Personally trained myself not to get caught holding anymore weight than I can lift
Learned to love letting go, now it's hard to get any kind of grip
To anything more than this borrowed pen holstered to my hip
But still I ache for a link to connect this dirty chain
But I can never seem to shake the rust that keeps my heart shackled solo to this pain

knock, knock... who's there?

She was one mess of an insurgent, highly volatile detergent
A support beam in the wind who dreamed of getting bent
Easily destroyed by the weight of life
Singing with her finger tips to anyone who would hear her strife
Consistently confusing attention for attraction
A gold fish in a bag looking for distraction
But heavy came the weight of the fish bowl
Fuck your plastic pirate ship, this is not home
We all swim but some of us forget to sink
It's not a bad tidbit of knowledge to know how bad the toilet stinks
I'm not saying that defeat is the option
But sometimes you gotta knock if you want in

Knock, knock, knock...no ones home
Knock, knock, knock... no ones home, for you no more

Dirty come the deeds that we do dependently
Life ain't a fairy tale, this ain't serendipity
A forest planted too thick, how did we ever expect to see
Beyond the cluster that this paper makes for you and me
We could climb tall trees until there's no more sky
But could it ever be enough to satisfy dead eyes
Fire fuels the greed, fooled into lust
Why is it so easy to love, but so hard to trust
A rubber tire only stays round for so long
The road wears and tares until the true shape is gone
Sometimes no matter how hard a man tries not to fight
It ends with two crossed swords in the dead of night

Knock, knock, knock...no ones home
Knock, knock, knock... no ones home, for you no more

The light burned blue on her little pale face
Addicted to the heat, omitting with no trace
Never one to be static, toes not known to grace the same space
She stretched herself so thin she no longer had a waist
But needy girls are never satisfied with just one man
Ears perked up for the ring,  telephone glued in hand
Sending secret text messages to one then the other
An under cover lover under far too many covers
I guess you gotta learn to move quick before the guns inevitable bang
Every day has a number, every bullet a name
Insurance could have had your back if you had ever filed the claim
The mailman won this battle, the guard dogs been maimed

Knock, knock, knock...no ones home
Knock, knock, knock... no ones home, for you no more

the cutter

Fingers under knives
We cut just to change the print
Blackened nails hold deep to fault lines
Giving way to the chipped bone below
This is that situation in which you wouldn’t want to be left alone
Showing compassion like a mongoose to a snake
Server all social niceties and let instinct take hold
Once captivating colors lose all meaning
Favorite shade becomes the tone of the skin of the backside of your eyelids
Opened just to wipe the excess build up away
Letting tears form just to clean the narrow pathway
Not capable of feeling anything more than your empty breaths
Dulling all senses in that hollow chest
Like cripples in the sand, we just can’t seem to stand
As we slowly sink away

fog

Somewhere beyond this static
There is a tempo and it moves me
Hidden like a fairy tale melody
Sleeping soundly till its silence no longer soothes me
Looking back and forth to find nothing
But dirty distractions that haunt me
Because they want all of me, and I none of them
Caught in the eye of the storm and it won't blink
Dry as a dessert, nothing lives here
I implore nevermore that I want more
Learned long ago no one is listening

To these phone calls
To these text messages
To these love letters
Failure to communicate

These walls they hold me
So tight I can only dream of letting go
Something has to break
Watch this house of cards fail to stand firm and fall
Pain in the neck caused by watching
& waiting for an illuminated phone
I am a compass with no directional rose
Just another Pip waiting on Estella to come back home
And show a shine to the person lost so long ago
Maybe help me refresh my mind
And remind me of times without

All these phone calls
All these text messages
All these love letters
Failure to communicate

The floor creaks as I pace back and forth
Killing all my time till doing nothing is okay
Face permanently sour like a lemon licking a lime
Depression is never far away and reminds me everyday
A mind that is too stubborn to shut down and die
Creation my only distraction but the hearts not in it today
Art created just to create
Like a belly feed just to eat
I take the cattle out to slaughter
And feed the calf all the meat
But still I wait on

A phone call
A text message
A love letter
Failure to communicate

silent nova

I picture words around your face
But can't seem to speak when the light hits
I'm lost on this planet of apes
And can't seem to find my silent Nova

Twisted in this wreckage, going nowhere, we've finally done it
Twisted in this wreckage, we're nothing
You damn dirty apes have finally done us in

Beneath a crust turned to ash
I search for records of its past
Finding only hatred lasts
The will to kill what's not in our path

Twisted in this wreckage, going nowhere, we've finally done it
Twisted in this wreckage, we're nothing
You damn dirty apes have finally done us in

You can lock me in your cages
This bodies a shell which has no hold
Live an entire lifetime with no ages
Hunted down like milestones

Twisted in this wreckage, going nowhere, we've finally done it
Twisted in this wreckage, we're nothing
You damn dirty apes have finally done us in

What's civilized behind these eyes
Still haven't found any answer
But still beauty lives in the disguise
Of the illusion of what comes after

Twisted in this wreckage, going nowhere, we've finally done it
Twisted in this wreckage, we're nothing
You damn dirty apes have finally done us in

classical mechanics

We live and die like a car crash
Violently fighting to keep this vehicle in motion
As inertia brings our journey to an end
We quickly scramble to buckle up in time
But the action is in motion and will not rest
Ejected from seats, feed to worms, feed to birds in a nest

This is our first law of motion
We move till we cease to be
The force it lives in you and me

The momentum was too great to slow in time
Mass only carried us further along
Velocity pushed us far beyond the finish line
Endless endeavor to preserve our present state
But ours are not the only bodies in motion
And the resistance never takes a break

This is our first law of motion
We move till we cease to be
The force it lives in you and me

If only Aristotle had it right
Without an external motive power we can rest
But the absence only wakes the heart inside the hollow chest
Loneliness renews impetus to replace the taste of longing lips
An equal action to forget the accident
That spun us off this narrow cliff

matryoshka doll of 1,000 faces

Mistress of 1,000 faces, those looks they can’t replace
The love we hide internal braces, support this heavy makeup case
You say your line, I step off queue, curtains we say adieu
Nowhere to one run but from the stage light, into the dark of night

But there’s just something about her, Lon Chaney
Just when I’ve found her, she changes with the moonlight

Silent as the days erase, phantom of the memories
You fold into curtains what you hide, masked in plain view like Mr. Hyde
As we struggle to see eye to eye, the shades those pupils lie behind
You see me but can I see you, or just what you want me to

But there’s just something about her, Lon Chaney
Just when I’ve found her, she changes with the moonlight

Is it the face for which you hide, or just the motives
Is it the devil in the details inside, or just the alibi
Somewhere in the actions of the actor there is truth
I’m just waiting for this nesting doll to find its end, and the face to never change again

But there’s just something about her, Lon Chaney
Just when I’ve found her, she changes with the moonlight

the 13th Doctor

I keep having these dreams in which love comes back to me at a fixed point in time
Women I've forgotten are now stars on a cloudy night
I can only see them when it's dark enough for them to shine
Don't even care about skin touching skin, these things can come at their own time
The only thing that keeps me sane is just what drives them back away
My love is a TARDIS that's too stubborn to be driven, it just takes us where it inclines

I'm the last of the time lords counting down to my thirteenth life
Pushing companions away to save them from a life of constant strife
Forever stranded and lost in all space and time
All those times I can' let go of in my mind

I keep awakening in deep space not knowing when or where I am
The calender has given up the ghost, time stands still here
The man I am should not exist, his existence puts all at risk
My actions always bring us here, my cowardliness to incline
We could have been something, she said, could have been a contender
The only honorable way out now is to travel back and make her not remember

I'm the last of the time lords counting down to my thirteenth life
Pushing companions away to save them from a life of constant strife
Forever stranded and lost in all space and time
All those times I can' let go of in my mind

I keep forgetting to set my stop watch, consistently late at record time
The adventure no longer holds me, never excited for what I'll find
If the attraction is the action, I could go on living blind
Remove all lust from the retina, no way into the minds eye
Not to say I'd go for saint hood, it's far too fun to sin
I'm just sick of being crushed by this big blue heart, that holds far too much within

I'm the last of the time lords counting down to my thirteenth life
Pushing companions away to save them from a life of constant strife
Forever stranded and lost in all space and time
All those times I can' let go of in my mind

the whoracles abstinence

It scares me how easy it is to say a word like whore
As easy as it is to be, as easy as it is not to see
Confuse lust for love, charity for company
To be invited for the night and stay for eternity
We give up a piece of ourselves every time we lay
Is this next one really worth giving up what we have so little left of to give
I'm no different, this is no childish finger pointing, it's a gentlemanly handshake
Something to bind us like a pact to not keep making the same mistakes
Like all these loneliness based decisions that bring us here time and time again
Like falling backwards into the arms of friends for who're not truly your friends
But I understand it's hard to see clearly when their song sounds so comforting from above
Bellowing from clouds seated for gods you long so much to sit among
But those welcome and open arms can't always be trusted
As some just tempt those lost from the path with inebriated hugs
A warm bed to rest their tired and lonely head
Watch a three headed beast make love like that of two
And spit out that extra wheel as soon as the fog has lifted through
Leaving the one even more alone, with even less to give
No thoughts do they give for the one, just feeding a habit with a living drug
But me, I'm not better, I strive on what I can't have
Only to obtain and lose interest
Like a child scared to grow into a man
But yet the wisdom teeth still grow
These hairs they fall and what stays shall grey
As I still pretend time has no hold on me
And lie to myself that it's not too late to change
But it becomes harder to ignore with every rising sun
These eyes may be tired but gain more clarity with every passing day I run from
This is where the obsessions come in
Bury myself inside a living tomb surrounded by my possessions
Things only obsessed over in an endless effort to rid myself
Of the feelings I can't seem to keep housed or at bay
And on the days when my eyes can't close tight enough to block out that sun
On the days when the smell of female skin is enough to make me come undone
Those are the days I fall apart
My strength abandons me and I'm left to fight for my own meal
In a forest I know nothing of
I find the spots I vaguely remember from dreams
I look for bones in the dirt around familiar trees
I change with the moon and awake an empty, sorrowful man
Knowing in my heart, I've killed again

whales don't cry

There’s a whale on the hook, I use my nose as a fishing pole
The more I lie, the further out my bait goes
Small teeth but the tail is large
Re-cast her as bait and try to catch the stars
We’re eating good tonight, true love is on the plate
Masturbate the meat let the blood ejaculate
Dipping bread in the puddle that the dead love makes
Cutting slabs off the heart and eat her hopes till my jaw breaks
A little bland, add a pinch of salt
Make soup de jour of this geological fault
Meals over, I’m not full and I feel like a waste
Sure she looks good but it ain’t how she tastes

Call me Ishmael; yeah I’m stranded on a boat tonight
And I swear on my life, yeah I swear my soul,
Captain Ahab won’t rest till his leg is whole
Yeah he will grapple thee, from hell’s heart at thee,
For hate’s sake he’ll spit his last breath of fire at thee
Call me Ishmael; and I’m stranded tonight

Peeling back the skin to get a full look at the grin
Let’s count the teeth inside to see who’s hiding more within
Release the dirty animals petrified between the gaps
Reanimate the dead so they can find another trap
Out in the deep blue, remembering what it’s like to breath
Was it love or just loneliness that made her fall for me?
Tripping over that first stone that stubbed her big toe
She started crying when see seen the blood, so I took her home
But who’s the prey here, the shark or the fish
Was it the chum in the water that gave birth to that first kiss?
Wake up paralyzed to a surprise sneak attack
Because the one you love no longer loves you back

Call me Ishmael; yeah I’m stranded on a boat tonight
And I swear on my life, yeah I swear my soul,
Captain Ahab won’t rest till his leg is whole
Yeah he will grapple thee, from hell’s heart at thee,
For hate’s sake he’ll spit his last breath of fire at thee
Call me Ishmael; and I’m stranded tonight

The captain’s lost his beans; he shaved off his face to see what’s inside
Been writing love letters to a whale postmarked 150 years back in time
But the skin was too much, he clogged up the drain
The letters were overkill, he ran out of things to say
And so started this endless tour of sea that’s been nothing but grim
Searching for a whale to get revenge upon or loose another limb
And no, he don’t care who he drags into the bottom of the sea
He’d put his own mother in a locker if it meant he could live ghost free
And who am I to say he’s crazy, I’m the one following him
Looking for the ghost of a whale chewing on a pirate’s boot, size 10
Hanging my head overboard to hide the tears that are rolling warm
Jealous I don’t got my own fish to chase around this storm

Call me Ishmael; yeah I’m stranded on a boat tonight
And I swear on my life, yeah I swear my soul,
Captain Ahab won’t rest till his leg is whole
Yeah he will grapple thee, from hell’s heart at thee,
For hate’s sake he’ll spit his last breath of fire at thee
Call me Ishmael; and I’m stranded tonight

flying south for winter

The days the birds fly south I can only walk slow
Slow like I have all the time in the world
But then I remember my only invitation is home
On days like these I can't blame the birds for shitting on me
I know it all steams from pure confusion
I've become part of a scenery with no moving parts
A weathered park bench with no place to park
It's when I notice the breeze on my finger tips and the tress breathing
In a world which can nail you down if you let it catch you sinking
That I find it hard to find my way home alone

Tender be the hand, to farm this land
As I walk with no place to go
Tender be the hand, to lay mines in the sand
As I follow bread crumbs home

If you can't count your friends when you're off the clock
You should find a new job or thank your god you have one
An associate till the bitter end, in payment we will bond
It's sad when a bar stool seems welcoming
When a night alone lost in film seems like a night out
When the alarm clock is the only reminder you have someplace to be
Like how fear of dying alone reminds me to die slow
In a cage in which my obsessions rapidly mate to a point of my own critical habitat
A fine wine aging to be an adolescent youth, a new-born body in a state of decay
A tired heart begging to stop, scared to share the disease from which we rot

Tender be the hand, to farm this land
As I walk with no place to go
Tender be the hand, to lay mines in the sand
As I follow bread crumbs home

This can it holds something, I'm sure I'll find it at the bottom
If not this one the next one, drink 'em till you don't got 'em
My attraction is a dime store romance
A modern day heart full dodger
I will love you until my belly is full
Pack you a lunch and ask you home
The pressure of my pen stroke, should tell you this is no lie
I will camp for you to be first in line
Wait patiently for that moment our last love bell chimes
And tear you limb from limb with my words every time

Tender be the hand, to farm this land
As I walk with no place to go
Tender be the hand, to lay mines in the sand
As I follow bread crumbs home

lemarchand's box

Love's my ancient puzzle box, an endless pain with hopes of ecstasy
Light bulbs never talk, they just shine light so we can see
We're an endless dial tone, waiting for a familiar voice to say hello
We're just skin and hollow bone, waiting to grow wings and fly home
If the inclusion of you is my torment, what I foreseen to be the death of me
Why do I let the good times play on loop and make me feel more empty
No one ever said this game was fair, right now I understand your Gods silence
If you have nothing nice to say just walk away and quickly drop those eyelids

I'm waiting on something more than a warning
I'm waiting on something more than a light to flash
Tell me we're safe
I'm done waiting... we're not safe

It's hard to close a door when you only see it as a bridge
The hinges worn from swinging back and forth, mother natures revenge
You make a better window, I make a better floor
You have something worth looking into, I just lie cause I'm bored
My love flickers back and forth, like white noise on a TV screen
A missing Link with missing hearts, in search of an aspiring Hyrule queen
We play adult games like confused kids, toys forgotten under the beds
Endlessly in search of what we've lost, that which we should have left buried and dead

I'm waiting on something more than a warning
I'm waiting on something more than a light to flash
Tell me we're safe
I'm done waiting... we're not safe

I present to you a murder mystery, a game of clue with living pawns
Let's fall deep into our crime, forget which side the lines are drawn
So much attraction to the distraction, a prince in lust with the black swan
Anything to blind the eyes to the red we apply to all we lay our hands upon
But as the sweat breaks, the mirror warps and shows the monsters we've become
A twisted version of our former selves, bleached of happiness and love
All this because of what I can't seem to let be forgotten, memories are just cancerous tumors we feed
It's the act of watering that keeps the pain alive, like a puzzle box that hides the suffering we seek

I'm waiting on something more than a warning
I'm waiting on something more than a light to flash
Tell me we're safe
I'm done waiting... we're not safe

the masks we wear

In a matter of time travel this distance won't mean a thing
As these arms I hold crippled by my side revert and reach within
These days a hello is hard to welcome, still practicing my goodbyes
Pushing the knife I stabbed in my own back clean through by and by

We all have masks we wear, some of us in our unconscious mind
These masks we wear won't mean a thing, when the eyes behind are blind

We're a planned bastard child, another franchise to keep the legend alive
But given the out we won't let go, the dream of living the promised life
In the story I fight for you, slay dragons and let loves kiss break slumbers hold
Only to wake and find this hunting dog is maimed, his teeth are only capable of letting go

We all have masks we wear, some of us in our unconscious mind
These masks we wear won't mean a thing, when the eyes behind are blind

No longer sure of my own face, under the plastic skin my flesh feels raw
I've been on stage too long, under lights too bright, my costume feels glued like trees to saws
Fancy threads can only hold so long, now worn and torn, they compliment only time
As my last lines escape my mind, and the curtains close our loves bell chimes

We all have masks we wear, some of us in our unconscious mind
These masks we wear won't mean a thing, when the eyes behind are blind

shark history week

Lips locked so tight, you can not read these words
Squeeze life through mashed teeth like a mother bird
If I’m the monster you’re the Von Frankenstein who created me
I’ll play the part of the shark if you play the part of the impending sea
Follow the wind when I sail, no faith in my moral compass
A captain’s captain with only scars and tattoos to adorn this chest
Steering with a bloody pulp and a hook from the hand grenade
I held frozen in my palm, too scared to share the pain

This journey is something of a mystery
I’m the storyteller who’s forgotten his own history
Cast shade like an umbrella with only rain to excite me
Living in a dry land without the luxury

I’m forgetting who I aimed to be, the target hides from me
This game of tag was more fun when “it” wasn’t me
Chasing shadows only to find no bones attached to them
All my friends are dead living as ghosts with translucent skin
I see the outline of a female and kiss the wrist for a pulse
Fingers outstretch only to find my own flesh and even this feels false
As the remembrance of what we are and what we can’t be
Encourages me to take up solitaire and leave you all hiding in trees

This journey is something of a mystery
I’m the storyteller who’s forgotten his own history
Cast shade like an umbrella with only rain to excite me
Living in a dry land without the luxury

Living in the darkness of my own mind makes me long for a stalker
Someone to obsess over me now and help me cross the street when I need a walker
A true fan, die hard, insert oversized foam number one finger here
A wedge to keep me on my toes and keep open the door I’ve kept closed all these years
But it’s a dying battle when anyone that close to me will soon become infected
Turn into a female me and need to swiftly be ejected
Cause if I can’t teach myself to love myself, no one will
A shark can’t sleep; he only rests, and must swim while or join the rest

This journey is something of a mystery
I’m the storyteller who’s forgotten his own history
Cast shade like an umbrella with only rain to excite me
Living in a dry land without the luxury

let the miners weep

If every verse starts with she or he,
I might as well pick up the phone and save my wrists the pain
It’s not that I don’t have the words inside,
but with this lack of perseverance they won’t come to life
Only the animal of lust escapes,
turning my poems into analogies for sexual games
Never to show the softer side I hide,
the one that gets lonely at night when the stars won’t shine

Yellow canary in a cave so black, she took the gas into her lungs, she ain’t coming back
Yellow canary in a cage so small, she put her life upon the line, yeah she gave her all
Yellow canary in a calm of night, she flew away into the silence, well out of sight
Yellow canary in a coma sleep, she’s down and out for the count, let the miners weep

This world is full of bangs and neon lights,
making the darkness more elusive than a pig in flight
Trying to jump start our hearts in the dark,
we use two black cords never see a spark
So here we sit on an abandoned road,
a misplaced detour took us way off course
In a silent ghost town no ones coming back,
only killers stayed behind to harvest bones for lamps

Yellow canary in a cave so black, she took the gas into her lungs, she ain’t coming back
Yellow canary in a cage so small, she put her life upon the line, yeah she gave her all
Yellow canary in a calm of night, she flew away into the silence well out of sight
Yellow canary in a coma sleep, she’s down and out for the count, let the miners weep

Biting my lips as my fingers move with ease,
a technicality that stings like angry bees
And as I light that fuse I know before it’s sent,
these atomic love letters won’t make a dent
We’re just machines counting bricks upon the wall,
waiting for the mortar to retire us all
We’re just machines rotating pictures and sounds,
waiting for the curtain call so we can fall

Yellow canary in a cave so black, she took the gas into her lungs, she ain’t coming back
Yellow canary in a cage so small, she put her life upon the line, yeah she gave her all
Yellow canary in a calm of night, she flew away into the silence well out of sight
Yellow canary in a coma sleep, she’s down and out for the count, let the miners weep

holy water

Bottled empty space, the liquid only waits
For lips to kiss the taste, reveal the chase
Too scared of noises bodies make
When alone they only stand to break
In search of soiled earth to shake, and fall in place

We all taste the same, like holy water
We all look the same, like holy water
We all shine the same, like holy water
We all burn the same, like holy water

Fingers pricked to feed, give life new seeds
You can give but do not take, you're a past mistake
When the future washes bodies clean
The engines purr, the cogs they heave
In a machine that can't break, no parts to replace

We all taste the same, like holy water
We all look the same, like holy water
We all shine the same, like holy water
We all burn the same, like holy water

With hands that can't see, we dot our eyes
Make crosses of our stick figure t's, evil get behind
With a mind too scared to lose control
We clench fists tight and won't let go
With a toothless face, we smile wide

We all taste the same, like holy water
We all look the same, like holy water
We all shine the same, like holy water
We all burn the same, like holy water

sinking or shrinking

She said goodbye and put a pad-lock on the door
Swallowed the key just to be extra sure
But then fear stepped in, poured water on the floor
Now there’s a river between two oceanic hearts that live as shores
And she’s been paddling herself back and forth
In a boat safe for one and no more
And every time she lifts her oars, she creates tidal bores
As her boat sinks slowly, forever lost offshore

It’s not the transport that is sinking
The destination is just shrinking

He drove away and down shifted his pain
Removed all maps from a glove box with no fingers to count his claims
Let them fade from his memory, rip holes in her frame
Erase all existence of previous travels like a father with no son to bare his name
But with no maps to guide him, all those dark roads looked the same
And that town he found felt welcome, but wasn’t found without aim
Littered with faces of retired actors using alias stage names
He’s been home all along with only himself to blame

It’s not the transport that is sinking
The destination is just shrinking

In the morning neither one of our victims learned a thing
Both held captive by their own stubbornness and refusal to change
Still chasing phantom ghosts, finding only emptiness and turning self estranged
Lining up lovers like coke cans in an open heartless firing range
And as the bodies pile high, so rises the odor of their fame
Angry townsfolk grow tired of their antics, bring torches to set flames
To these monsters that only take, and give back nothing but pain
Both too blind to see it’s the fear of losing love again that has made them this way

It’s not the transport that is sinking
The destination is just shrinking
